Hydnophytum formicarum / Ant Plant
Rare and unique collector plant with a beautiful swollen caudex. Hydnophytum formicarum is also known as “Ant Plant” because in nature, ants may live inside the hollow chambers of its caudex. Very interesting plant for caudex lovers, terrarium setup, orchid-style growing, or rare plant collectors.
This plant has a unique textured base and green leaves, giving it a very exotic look. Easy to keep if given bright light, good airflow, and well-draining media.
Care tips:
• Light: Bright indirect light is best. Can take some gentle morning sun, but avoid harsh hot afternoon sun.
• Water: Keep slightly moist, but not soggy. Water when the top layer feels lightly dry.
• Media: Best in airy, well-draining mix such as orchid bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, or chunky mix.
• Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity, but make sure airflow is good.
• Fertiliser: Use weak orchid fertiliser or diluted liquid fertiliser once a month.
• Important: Do not let the caudex sit in wet soil for too long, as it may rot.
Perfect for plant collectors who love something unusual and eye-catching.
